Stamford, Connecticut, U.S.A. - Further to our releases on April 26, May 1, and July 19, 1995 reporting the arrests of approximately 30 - 40 Roman Catholics because of their religious activities resulting in jail sentences of 3 - 10 years for four persons and heavy fines for the other 14 persons, more arrests have been made.
1) Rev. Liao Hai Qing, age 68, who was last arrested by the Chinese Security Bureau for his Catholic religious activities on August 11, 1994 and was released in November 1994, was arrested again on August 4, 1995. He is now being kept at Lin Chuan City's detention center in Jiangxi. He has a heart condition and high blood pressure, but he is not allowed to receive medicine from his family. No details on his current physical condition are available. His family is not allowed to visit him.
2) Mr. HUANG Teng-Zong, age 58, an active Catholic layman, was arrested by the Chinese Security Bureau on August 6, 1995. He is now being detained in Chong Ren, Jiangxo. No details on his well-being are available. No other details.
